Cider
Scandi Apple Cider
What makes Scandinavian cider unique? Special North Europe apples blend. Three basic elements create a structure for cider – acid, tannin, and sweetness. They use a specific mix of Baltic varieties of apples, including (but not limited to) – Tellisaare Alwa, Suislepp, Liivi Kuldrenett, Krugeri Tuvioun, and Talvenauding. This gives a unique combination of acid, tannin, and sweetness. The cider professionals came to conclusion that the apples for the production of the specific type of cider must grow precisely in the climate and on the soil where cider will be produced. Domaine de Rancy Rivesaltes Ambré Vin Doux Naturel
The 2001 vintage of Domaine de Rancy Rivesaltes Ambré was bottled at the end of 2008. The wine, therefore, spent 12 years in barrel before it was bottled. This time in barrel gave the wine an astonishing level of complexity. The aromas of caramel, raisin, and fig carry through to the palate. In the mouth, the wine is rich and unctuous with dried fruit, walnut, and quince flavors. Luckily the wine has enough balancing acidity that it is not at all cloying. The finish is extremely long and lingers long after your glass has been emptied. Producer: Domaine de Rancy. Vintage: 2001. Country: France. Varietal(s): Macabeo (Macabeu or Viura)
$75.00

Domaine Collin Cremant de Limoux
This is a balanced, elegant, Crémant de Limoux, with no rough edges. The Chardonnay gives the wine brightness and a lively acidity, the Chenin Blanc adds richness and texture, while the Pinot Noir adds depth to the wine. Given that this is Collin’s entry level sparkling wine, this is an impressively balanced and complex wine. It is truly a testament to what this relatively obscure vineyard area is capable of producing. This wine is produced in a traditional method with a second fermentation taking place in the bottle. This wine has a low, 6 grams of residual sugar per liter, in comparison to Brut champagne which generally ranges from 9 to 14 grams per liter. Producer: Domaine Collin. Vintage: NV. Country: France. Varietal(s): Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir
$45.00
Henriot Brut Souverain
Henriot’s vineyard has been around since the 1700s, but they didn’t begin producing bubbly until 1808. Composed of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the Souverain Brut tends toward a lighter, more crisp style with decent acidity and flavors of green apples, pears, limes, nectarines and a light bit of minerality. Also has some cream and vanilla on the finish. Producer: Henriot. Vintage: NV. Country: France. Varietal(s): Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir
$102.00
Christian Etienne Cuvee Tradition Brut
Christian Etienne is a small grower in the Champagne region who in 1990 stopped selling his grapes to the big houses and instead began bottling under his own name. He farms about 22 acres in the town of Aube, where the chalk and limestone soils are ideal for producing top-notch Champagne. His “Brut Tradition” is an 80/20 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with a classic Champagne nose, terrific body weight, an elegant mousse, and a long finish. Producer: Christian Etienne. Vintage: NV. Country: France. Varietal(s): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir

Sébastien Brunet 100% Pet Nat Rosé
From .6 hectares of 55 year old vines of Grolleau and Gamay vines planted in flint-clay soils, the vines are planted with vegetation between them and treated with organic practices only. The grapes are hand-harvested between September and October, not de-stemmed and go directly to pressing. The grapes are then moved to stainless steel tanks where spontaneous fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts lasting three weeks without temperature control. Allowed to rest in tank for approximately two months and unfiltered. Upon disgorging the wine is given minuscule amounts of SO2 (10mg/L). Producer: Sébastien Brunet. Vintage: NV. Country: France. Varietal(s): Gamay, Grolleau

La Collina “Quaresimo” Lambrusco Dell’Emilia
Active, natural wine with lots of personality. Nose has both a slightly volatile apple cider vinegar note, and gorgeous and intense honey. Vintage: 2016. Country: Italy. Varietal(s): Lambrusco Grasparossa

Carolina Gatti Rosato ‘Pinpinea’
Like this unusual rosato, made from a local Veneto grape called Raboso, that drinks more like a baby red. There are some tannins, and a bright, tart cherry fruit that gives way to sweet strawberry finish. Red Twizzler, meets cranberry sauce, meets the first days of early Spring. Not a porch pounder, we like this one with food or after-dinner refreshment. Producer: Carolina Gatti. Vintage: 2017. Country: Italy. Varietal(s): Rabigato

Athénaïs de Béru Bougogne-Blanc
This is the stuff. Everything non-intervention winemaking should be; a little bit of wildness but clearly fundamentally sound. On the nose there’s lemongrass, a yeasty lees-like influence, and lemon curd. The palate is rounded on the edges but still beautifully lifted – incisive, with a stony, chalky spine that runs from top to bottom held aloft by racy acidity. Bursting with sharp citrus and a grassy, crisp finish. Producer: Château de Béru-Athénaïs de Béru. Vintage: 2016. Country: France. Varietal(s): Chardonnay

Martin Texier, La Boutanche Blanc
About La Boutanche. When the importers at Selection Massale were first starting out, they quickly became disappointed with the lack of good natural wine in the $20 range. Not being the kind of people to say ‘well, it is what it is’, they got to work thinking about how they could remedy this situation. So, they started talking with their producers and, already knowing what they wanted – native yeast fermentations, low or zero SO2 additions, and the like; basically pure unadulterated glou-glou that they could put into a liter-sized screw-top bottle and would be a great introduction to natural wine – it didn’t take long for them to find winemakers who were willing to partner with on this project. All it needed was a name. Organic, Biodynamic, Sustainable. Producer: Domaine de l’Amandier Martin Texier for La Boutanche (Selection Massale). Vintage: 2015. Country: France. Varietal(s): Marsanne, Roussanne

La Fattoria Tenuta delle Ripalte
A well-traveled grape, Vermentino finds a happy home in the Isle of Elba, where sunny days provide the perfect warm condition for this maritime-friendly varietal. Dense, fleshy grapes are pressed gently and remain in contact with the fine lees for several months. The result is a wine plump in its mouthfeel, with striking mineral and saline content, cushioned by delicate notes of white plum, golden delicious apple, and sandalwood. In the glass: straw yellow color, with golden reflections. On the nose: intense and persistent, fine and elegant, white fruit and citrus fruits are highlighted, as well as a bit of Mediterranean scrub. Palete: very balanced and fresh, harmonious and delicately fruity, good minerality and savory aftertaste, the hint of bitter almond is typical in the finish. The Fattoria delle Ripalte farm on the Island of Elba is dedicated to the production exceptional wines with respect to the ancient history of the island. The Capo Calamita estate is now home to Tenuta delle Ripalte. It was purchased between the late 1800s and early 1900s by Oscar Tobler entrepreneur of a noble family of Swiss origin with a passion for agriculture seen from an economic but also social point of view. The farm is located within the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, for this reason agronomic production follows the dictates of sustainable agriculture, fertilization is carried out with organic fertilizers, maximum control of weeds with mechanical processing or hoeing, no irrigation so as not to impoverish the scarce water supply. In 2002 a vineyard of Aleatico was planted, the most famous and typical Elban wine, which covers about fifteen hectares distributed in 4 areas all above 180 meters above sea level to ensure greater ventilation in a rich volcanic soil of minerals with the result of a wine of absolute value and value. Producer: La Fattoria Tenuta Delle Ripalte. Vintage: 2015. Country: Italy. Varietal(s): Vermentino (Rolle)

High citrus acidity and low level of round tannin. Producer: Milan Nestarec. Vintage: 2016. Country: Czech Republic. Varietal(s): Müller Thurgau

Dr. Loosen Dr. L Riesling
This extremely popular introductory wine embodies the elegant and racy style of classic Mosel Riesling. It is refreshing and fruity, with a fine mineral edge that is typical of the region. The grapes used to make Dr. L come exclusively from traditional vineyards with steep slopes and slate soil. By working closely with a select group of growers on long-term contracts, brothers Ernst and Thomas Loosen are able to ensure excellent quality in every vintage. Green apple with tang and light sweetness. Hint of apricot and stone but mostly just lightly pleasant without becoming boring. Producer: Dr. Loosen. Vintage: 2015. Country: Germany. Brandborg Fleur de Lis Blanc de Noir (White Pinot Noir)
The wine has peach skin, bronzy hue. The aromas have peach and nectarine notes, with some green apple and ripe strawberries. You do get a bit of creaminess from the sur lies aging, lees stirring, and the small component of the new oak puncheon, which nicely compliments the fruit aromas. These fruit flavors are apparent on tasting with a nice rhubarb crispness helping to round out the white fruit flavors. The wine is fairly big and round in the mouth. Producer: Brandborg. Vintage: 2015. Country: United States. Varietal(s): Pinot Noir

Milan Nestarec, Forks & Knives Red
Natural and funky, all signs of Pinot Noir: pomegranate color, low tannin (but enough) and even high acidity. In the aroma of baked cherry and plum, spices (cloves, a little vanilla), tea and grated carrot. From light to medium body, juicy, long cherry aftertaste. Grapes are hand harvested and destemmed. The wine is fermented in 2500-liter stainless steel tanks for about 10 days with indigenous yeasts. The skins remain in contact with the juice for about 3 days, for a light and soft extraction and occasional pigeage. Half of the wine stays in tank and the other half goes into used 225-liter oak barrels for elevage for about 13 months. The wine is bottled unfiltered, unfined, and with zero sulfur added. Producer: Milan Nestarec. Vintage: 2016. Country: Czech Republic. Varietal(s): Pinot Noir

Christian Tschida Himmel Auf Erden Rot
This is something different and special. It’s light-bodied but with a strong nose. It’s earthy but ripe, red cherry shines through, dry soil character sends me to tumbleweeds in the death valley desert, it’s dusty, it’s unfiltered, it’s funky but not in a sour way more like wet grass and vegetal kind of way. Definitely a savory wine though. There’s some baked crust in there, minerals, smoke, and flint. A beautiful bottle of wine and an appropriate name (Himmel auf erden rot – Heaven on earth red). Producer: Christian Tschida. Vintage: 2016. Country: Austria. Varietal(s): Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt. Varietal % Breakdown: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Zweigelt

Explosive aromas of sweet blackberry liqueur are highlighted by black pepper, pomegranate, violets and fresh green olive scents that develop and evolve with air and become even more exotic. This bomb left in its wake untold destruction to historically and architecturally significant buildings that make up the identity of a part of the downtown core. This area of the city was home not only to businesses and entertainment venues but was also a vibrant neighborhood, home to an eclectic blend of artists, business people, and community leaders. How can you help? Together, The DISTRICT, Inc and Metro Historical Commission Foundation has created a fund to help restore the vitally important historic district of 2nd avenue.
