Once home to the Lyman Brothers Boat Builder company, this was the boat factory which produced the premier vessel of Lake Erie; the Lyman boat. In the late 1920’s the brothers renamed their company to Lyman Boat Works and relocated to the venue’s current location in Sandusky. The factory initially produced small sailing and rowing vessels, but by the mid-20th century was churning out custom sail and power boats. Production finally ceased in 1973 as the demand for wooden boats disappeared. Many of the present day structures at Lyman Harbor were retrofitted using the original boat factory structures in order to maintain the atmosphere and historical significance of the Lyman Boat Works.
